Luckily all was well. After 1 year of Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy treatment, Eric’s father (Eric Snr) was given the all-clear and the whole family breathed a sigh of relief because they too had all been under so much strain. 5 years later the cancer reappeared but he went straight into the same treatment and was again, given the all-clear. Thankfully that still stands today.
“Once the euphoria had died down I took stock of everything and realised quite how close I had come to losing my Dad and how much I owed him, and I wanted to do something tangible to show him how much I cared. I wanted to give something back”.
So Walk with Cancer was born.
Walk with Cancer is a registered company which aims to raise funds for cancer research worldwide. But it is a fundraiser with a difference. With every ticket sold the guest will receive a voucher entitling them to a pair of Eric’s divine shoes, absolutely free. The shoes are worth £220 and half of that will be donated directly to the chosen cancer charity.
The Eric Way shoe collection changes constantly, according to the whims of fashion, but Eric has guaranteed that three styles for women and two styles for men will always be available for any Walk with Cancer event. And these shoes will have a special insole in the right shoe highlighting the Walk with Cancer support. Already several companies have adopted Walk with Cancer for their event. The Institute of Cancer Research has raised funds for their Everyman Male Cancer Awareness Month by holding a Walk with Cancer Ball in Summer 2007, and the organisers of Miss England 2007 are making sure that all their contestants will wear the Walk with Cancer heels during the contest. And that’s just the beginning.
“I wanted something which was open to all cancer fundraisers around the world, and which would be a lasting memorial to my father, so whether it be a local Women’s Institute evening, or a huge international Black Tie event, all the organiser has to do is log on to www.walkwithcancer.com to apply for an application pack or call 020 8780 9944.“
